Lambeth Council is committed to creating the best conditions for business in the borough. Our vision is for an ‘Enterprising Lambeth’, a place where business and enterprise are welcome and can grow to the benefit of all who live, work and play in Lambeth, and where everyone with business ambitions can fulfil their potential regardless of background.
Lambeth is home to almost 10,000 businesses and the area is rated as one of the best for enterprise in the country, we want to make sure that all businesses and individuals have the best opportunities to start, own and grow a successful business.
Lambeth is part of the wider London economy and as such has experienced strong overall growth relative to other English regions. Lambeth accounts for 0.53% of total British GVA and the borough ranks 29th out of 408 local authorities in Britain in terms of economic scale. Lambeth has a GVA per capita (i.e. resident of Lambeth) of £25,212, around 12% higher than the London average of £22,236 and nearly 40% higher than the national average of £15,498
The Lambeth Business Awards Programme was delivered for the first time in 2007-08, attracting over 200 nominations and culminating in an Awards ceremony in February 2008 celebrating the success of 27 shortlisted finalists, including ten category winners. The South Bank Centre won the prestigious Lambeth Business of the Year. The programme is now a key part of the Lambeth First (Lambeth’s Local Strategic Partnership) Enterprise Action Plan and the application period and awards ceremony is becoming an established part of the borough’s enterprise calendar.
The programme is overseen by the borough’s Enterprise Board and a project team made up of members of the Board which includes the London Borough of Lambeth’s Cabinet Member for Employment and Enterprise, local colleges, universities and private sector businesses. The programme is a high priority for Lambeth and has visibly high level support from partners.
